Lady Whippets fall at Ontario

-

ONTARIO — Shelby hung tough in three closely-contested sets, but wound up falling in the end to Ontario 3-0 Tuesday during Mid Ohio Athletic Conference varsity volleyball action.

The Lady Whippets were swept 27-25, 25-23, 25-22 by their hosts.

“When it mattered most we attacked the ball out of bounds and the night with 21 hitting errors. Those errors had a huge impact on win versus loss when games are so tight,” said SHS coach Brandie Albert as her team tumbled to 2-4 in the MOAC and 5-8 overall in falling short of their first three-game winning streak of the season.

“We came out to a bit of a slow start in games one and two, but found some defensive holes on their right side to stay aggressive and in the game,” noted Albert.

Shelby

greatly reduced its service errors and only had two during the matchup. The visitors hit 70-72 serves and received two aces each from Sydnie Seibert and Marleigh Albert. Both served at 100 percent along with teammates Demi Hipp and Reyna Hoffman.

Kassie Stine topped the Whippets with 17 digs and Makenna Miller added 10. Stine also had 14 receptions and Miller was next with 13.

Seibert and Albert were the assist leaders with 14 and 13, respectively.

“I need to compliment Olivia Baker and Kelley Mack on their hitting percentages at the net,” cited Albert.

Baker was 16 of 16 hitting with seven kills for a percentage of .438 while Mack was eight of nine with four kills for a .375.

Shelby swings back into action today at home against Marion Pleasant.
