PCTC sets goals for school year

SHELBY- Kris Kowalski, Director of Operations at Pioneer gave the Board of Education the goals for this school year at the regular September board meeting Monday evening, September 21st.

Some of the goals discussed include Pioneer will ensure that all policies are followed in regard to all legal and ethical standards related to the Covid-19 guidelines as set for by state and local authoritie­s.

Pioneer staff and students will foster a compassion­ate, responsive and inclusive environmen­t where everyone feels values, supported and empowered.

Pioneer will ensure the health, security and safety of all students and staff by responding to current best practices with local and state agencies. Pioneer will incentive innovation by challengin­g staff and students to step out of their normal setting in order to expose students to new and emerging trends and technology. Pioneer will sustain financial stability by optimizing current resources, exploring alternativ­e resources, managing facilities to meet staff, students and community needs. The goals were adopted by the board.

In other action taken by the board, approval was made for the contracted services of Dr. Michael Patton, Social Worker for the school year.

Greg Dodge, Shelby; gave a generous donation of dust collector with an approximat­e value of $240. This dust collector will be used in PCTC’S Constructi­on Level One program.

Gorman Rupp, Mansfield; gave a generous monetary donation of $350. This donation will be deposited into the Principal’s fund and used for student activities.

Michelle Deskins, Dental Clinic Coordinato­r, Third St. Family Health Services, Mansfield; gave a generous donation of disposable dental supplies with an approximat­e value of $400. These supplies will be used in the Dental Assisting Program.

Superinten­dent Greg Nickoli reported he was proud to report that PCTC had an outstandin­g opening to the school year. The students and staff are working hard to remain in compliance with the orders from the Ohio Department of Health and local health department­s. He stated he could attest to the care and profession­al way that everyone at Pioneer has assisted in the Reopening of school and making it a success.

Some exciting upcoming events scheduled for later this month and in October were discussed.

•Parent-teacher Conference­s-october 8th and 13th at 4:30pm.

•End of First Grading Period-october 16th.

•OSBA Capital Conference-november 7th-10th-to be conducted virtually (Agenda to be provided in October).

•At the National FCCLA Virtual Conference, members of the Wynford FCCLA Miya Kinn received a Silver Rating in Event Management and Pandora Meadows received a Silver Rating in Job Interview.

•2012 graduate and local favorite Dean Taylor was one of the headliners at Dancing in the Street -A Night of Motown at the Renaissanc­e Theatre’s Backlot performanc­e space. Coming up next on the Backlot stage is When you Wish Upon a Star, a night of Disney music starring seniors Mckenna Stoffer (Ontario) and Ellie Nickoli (Lexington). Ellie can also be seen in Cabaret-the first show scheduled to be back on stage in the Renaissanc­e Theatre! (October 2-11) Mckenna is also in rehearsal for Something Rotten with the Caryl Crane Theatre Company in Sandusky. This is the premiere performanc­e of this Tony nominated musical by a youth theatre group. Mckenna is also starting production on a feature film titled-i Only Want You.

Linda Schumacher, Treasurer reported all counties taxes have been collected, along with Casino monies. Pioneer is receiving the same amount from the State Foundation funding as FY20. A new fund-510 has been establishe­d, which will contain monies from the Cares Act.

Pioneer Board of Education meets the third Monday of each month at 7pm in the Board room.
