SHS netters eliminated

PORT CLINTON — Shelby’s participants in the Division II District at Port Clinton High School saw their seasons halted Friday.

The Lady Whippets doubles team of Grace Mahek and Anna Vogt were a win from advancing to state when they were ousted in the quarterfinals by Bryan’s Emilee Bassett and Reese Grothaus 1-6, 7-6, 6-2.

In the opening round, the Mahekvogt

duo won 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 against Libby Simmons and Morgan Chaney of Lima Central Catholic.

The SHS doubles tandem of Madison Sharrock and Raegan Gurney lost in the initial round to Lima Bath’s Elena Oliver and Anne Oliver 7-5, 6-0.

In singles play, Shelby’s Sadie Smith fell in the first round against Clyde’s Emma Strudthoff 6-3, 6-2.
