Big Red drop FC opener

OLIVESBURG — Crestview put together a surge in the fourth quarter to open up a double-digit lead and went on to defeat Plymouth 71-63 in the Firelands Conference boys basketball opener for both schools Friday evening.

The Big Red, who drop to 0-1 in the conference and 0-3 overall, led 18-11 after one quarter.

The visitors saw their lead evaporate in the second quarter as the Cougars erupted for 28 points and seized a 39-38 advantage at halftime.

Crestview extended their lead to 50-48 after three periods and used a 21-15 spree during the final eight minutes to cement the win.

Seth Goth led PHS in scoring with 18 and Clayton Miller kicked in 14. Josh Beebe added nine and Blake Vanderpool had eight. Goth also had eight boards and Miller delivered five assists.

The Cougars, who stand at 1-0 in the FC and 2-0 in all games, were powered by Evan Hamilton’s 29 that featured an 11 of 13 effort at the charity stripe. Owen Barker hit for nine while Heath Kash, Evan Gibbs and Hunter George each had eight.

Crestview owned the glass 43-26.

The next game for Plymouth is Tuesday, Dec. 15, at home against South Central.
