Shelby swims to win, Stine sets mark

After a lengthy layoff, Shelby’s varsity boys and girls swim teams returned to competition and defeated Willard Tuesday evening.

The Lady Whippets were a 105-60 winner and the SHS boys were victorious 92-29. Both red and gray teams sport records of 2-0.

Highlighting the meet was a school-record performance by senior Kassie Stine in the 1-meter diving with a score of 166.55. She also won the 50-meter freestyle with a clock of 28.63.

Stine teamed up with Reyna Hoffman, Riley Lewis and Elli Mayer to capture the 200-meter medley relay in 2:16.35. She then worked with Zoe Mcnary, Ava Long and Hoffman to sweep the 200-meter freestyle relay in 2:06.12.

Hoffman won a pair of individual events by taking the 200-meter freestyle (2:31.02) and the 400-meter freestyle (5:17.21).

Adding to the first-place count for the SHS girls were Mcnary in the 100-meter butterfly (1:27.56) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:33.68) as well as Lewis in the 100-meter backstroke (1:25.74).

Shelby’s boys were paced by Paxton Gibson with victories in the 50-meter freestyle (27.23) and 100-meter freestyle (1:04.99). He also joined Josh Mohr, Kael Moore and Wyatt Mckenzie in taking the 200-meter medley relay (2:13.20).

Also capturing individual wins for the Whippets were Ty Cox in the 200meter individual medley (2:57.54), Mohr in the 100-meter backstroke (1:15.17) and Mckenzie in the 100meter breaststroke (1:21.97).

The foursome of Mohr, Moore, Mckenzie and David Mongold claimed the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:00.49) and the group of Blake Muntis, Hayden Faith, Mongold and Cox ruled the 400-meter freestyle relay in (5:06.56).
