Hoffman shatters pair of SHS marks

NORTH ROBINSON — Shelby junior Reyna Hoffman smashed a pair of school swim records during Thursday’s meet at Colonel Crawford.

Hoffman shaved 17 seconds off her previous best in the 500-yard freestyle with a program-best 5:41.28 and then she knocked off a little more than a second from her previous best in breaking the 100-yard breaststro­ke mark with a 1:12.23. She also won both events.

As a team, the Lady Whippets finished second with 52 points, trailing the host Eagles with 125 and besting Bucyrus with 23.

On the boys side, Colonel Crawford was first with 114, followed by SHS (75) and the Redmen (8).

Other wins for the Shelby swimmers were courtesy of Wyatt Mckenzie in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.60), Blake Muntis in the 500-yard freestyle (6:09.27) and Josh Mohr in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.62).

Tuesday the Whippets swim at Galion.

SPARTA — Shelby reeled off three victories Thursday a quad wrestling meet hosted by Highland.

The Whippets bested Mt. Gilead (46-21), Utica (45-12) and the host Scots (40-36).

With the wins, SHS improves to 5-2 on the season.

Posting 3-0 records on the mats for Shelby were Trace Thomas (145 pounds), Davey Ray (182) and Carson Ingram (220). Going 2-0 were Wyatt Kilgore (138), Micah Miller (145) and Garet Sipe (152).

Coming through with 2-1 ledgers for the Whippets were A.J. Roll, Garrett Montgomery, Garrett Baker, Skyler Winters and Zach Mcmillan.

Saturday the Shelby wrestlers are at Dalton.
