Obituary Kent Eyler

Kent E. Eyler, age 93 Shelby resident, died Friday, March 26, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

Born September 24, 1927 in Lima, OH to Elvin & Elizabeth (Freeze) Eyler, he had been a Shelby resident since 1967. Mr. Eyler was a 1945 graduate of Shawnee High School and received his B.S. degree in Education from The Ohio State University in 1950 and his Masters degree from Bowling Green State University in 1960. He began teaching at Centerburg High School in 1950 where he also coached various sports. In 1950 he taught and coached at Woodville High School until 1962. Mr. Eyler served as Principal at Washington Twp. and Harris Elmore High School before coming to Shelby in 1967 where he served as Shelby Senior High School Principal, Assistant Superinten­dent and Superinten­dent of the Shelby Public Schools in 1974 retiring in 1982.

Mr. Eyler was a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy. He was associated with the First Lutheran Church; a member of the Shelby Club, Ohio Retired Teachers Associatio­n, past active member of Buckeye Assoc. of School Administra­tors and American Assoc. of School Administra­tors, former member of the Shelby Rotary Club where he served as president in 1979; and a member of the American Legion Post #326. In days past, he enjoyed playing golf with his friends, and was a follower of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the

Whippets.

Survivors include his wife, Helen D. (Hall) Aubel Eyler whom he wed March 26, 1994; two sons; Dr. Steven (Carol) Eyler of Davidson, North Carolina; David (Allison) Eyler of Midland, Texas; six grandchild­ren, Zach Eyler, Dr. Megan Eyler, Molly Mix, Bridget Green, Rachel Eyler and John Eyler; two great grandchild­ren Sydney and Miles Eyler; one stepdaught­er, Valerie Aubel; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret E. Eyler in 1968; his second wife, Anita “Tina” Hartman in 1989; one son, Donald Eyler; two brothers, Elvin and Dr. Don Eyler and one sister Betty Huffman.

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory Friday, April 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A graveside funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM from the Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Reverend Russel Yoak will officiate.
