Mayor reports COVID-19 activity in Shelby
SHELBY- Mayor Steven Schag provided an update from the Shelby City Health Department regarding COVID-19 activity during Monday night’s regular city council meeting.
In Schag’s report, he stated the health department was reporting COVID-19 activity from April 3-5 with three new cases in that time frame. The three new cases were from the general population and there were also two resolved/ recovered cases from the general population, Schag added.
Schag continued on and said the department had documented a total of 826 individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak began in March 2020. Of that cumulative number, 777 individuals have attained recovered/ resolved status. There have been 35 COVID-19 deaths documented from within the jurisdiction (9 from general population and 26 from long term care facility).
Currently, Schag stated the department was monitoring 14 active cases from the general population with zero individuals hospitalized.
“The Shelby City Health Department has administered 1,939 first doses of the vaccine since mid January. Four clinics are designated for second doses and will take place this month,” Schag said.
In addition, Schag said the Shelby City Health Department would not be scheduling any new first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine clinics due to the current lack of demand.
