Wooster topples Shelby squads in swim

WOOSTER — Host Wooster swept a three school swim meet Wednesday evening.

In the girls competition, Wooster totaled 159 to best Shelby (109) and Mansfield Madison (50). The General were the boys winner with 163 and followed by the Rams (55) and Whippets (36).

Emma Montgomery captured a pair of individual events for SHS, winning the 50-yard freestyle (26.03) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.33). She also teamed with Reyna Hoffman, Riley Lewis and Elli Mayer to take the 200-yard medley relay (1:57.18).

Mayer was also a first-place finisher for the red and gray in the 100-yard freestyle (59.09) and Lewis picked up a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.28).

Paxton Gibson recorded the lone triumph for the Shelby boys in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.83).

Saturday the swimmers participate in the Northwest Ohio Classic. The preliminaries will take place at Fremont Ross in the morning and the top times will advance to the finals to be held later in the day at Bowling Green State University.
