Shelby girls dominate Willard 75-12

Undefeated Shelby shot better than 50 percent from the floor and rolled to a 75-12 non-conference girls basketball victory against Willard Thursday evening in the Dawg House.

The Lady Whippets made 27 of 47 of their shot tries as they improved their ledger to 9-0 on the season.

SHS was in control of the game out of the starting gate and grabbed a 20-2 advantage at the end of the first eight minutes, led by six points from Audi Albert and five from Olivia Baker.

Boosted by eight points from Baker during quarter No. 2, Shelby expanded its lead to 43-9 at the intermissi­on.

The Whippets drained four three-pointers, topped by two from Jena Lafon, during the third quarter to build a 64-12.

SHS outpointed the Flashes 11-0 during the final quarter.

A total of 12 players reached the scoring column for Shelby. Baker triggered the runaway with 16 and Albert finished with 11. Sy Sivongsak tallied five in the loss.

Haylee Baker finished with nine points, four assists and four steals. Sophia Niese pulled down six missed shots for the red and gray and had five steals.

Next up for Shelby is a trip Tuesday to Sandusky to participat­e in the Jingle Bell Jam at the Cedar Point Sports Center. The Whippets will square off at 2:15 p.m. against Garfield Heights Trinity which comes into the game with a 5-0 record. Next Thursday the red and gray travel to Clear Fork for a key Mid Ohio Athletic Conference contest.
