Lady Whippets fall in eight

-

Shelby sent the game to an extra inning by tying matters for the second time but Clear Fork piled up six runs in the top of the eighth for a 10-6 Mid Ohio Athletic Conference softball triumph Thursday.

The second meeting between the two in as many days was similar to Wednesday’s game where the Lady Colts used a big inning — a seven-run fifth frame — to nab an 8-3 win.

The setback sends the Whippets to 7-5 in the

MOAC and 10-10 in all contests.

Down 2-0 in the first inning, SHS tied the game in the home half of the same stanza on a towering two-run homer by Sadie Smith.

Clear Fork added single runs in the fourth and fifth to go up 4-2.

Shelby struck for a run each in the sixth and seventh to tie and extend the game.

Alyssa Neill’s solo home run in the sixth pulled the Whippets within a run. She picked up a RBI in the seventh with a single to right in the seventh.

The Colts collected four hits, two walks and a hit batter to break the game open in the eighth.

SHS owned a advantage in hits.

Neill was 4-for-4 while Maggie Bogner added three hits. Trinity Baker had a double and a single. Demi Hipp and Mallary Gundrum each rounded up two safeties. Lexi Thompson and Smith each had one.

Ashtyn Roberts was the

15-7 winning pitcher and she recorded five strikeouts. Alexis Booker absorbed the loss and yielded eight runs on five hits with two strikeouts and eight walks. Relieving for the red and gray were Alyssa Booker with two runs on two hits and Adey Cornette.

Friday’s home contest with Lexington was rained out. Monday the Shelby softball team travels to Ontario. Tuesday they are home for a Division II Sectional contest against Tiffin Columbian.
