Champion Lady Whippets honored at awards gathering

The Mid Ohio Athletic Conference girls track and field champions from Shelby were honored Tuesday evening at an awards ceremony.

Junior Kayla Gonzales was named the squad’s Most Valuable Runner and also accepted the award for Most Running Points.

Freshman Ava Bowman tabbed the Rookie of the Year recipient.

The award for Most Improved Upperclass­man went to junior Brooklyn

Gwirtz.

The Most Improved Underclass­man honor was presented to sophomore Channon Cundiff.

Freshman Serena Ramsey accepted the award for Most Field Event Points.

Senior Haylee Baker accepted the Sportsmans­hip Award.

Receiving Captain Awards were Abby Vogt, Grace Garrett, Mary Wilkins and Baker.

Fourth-year varsity letters went to Reyna

Hoffman and Baker while third-year monograms went to Trinity Civay, Olivia Osborne, Gonzales, Gwirtz, Vogt and Wilkins.

Lettering a second year were Olivia Barnard, Alainah Carmel, Lily Clark, Peyton Putnam, Kailyn Schwall, Tessa Slone, Gabrielle Stumbo, Alyssa Thomas, C. Cundiff and Garrett.

Earning their first varsity letter in track and field were Lauren Krietemeye­r, Rees Lewis, Kaylin Mahon, Zada Marquis, Emma

Montgomery, Alyssa Niese, Kassidy Riggle, Julia Sickmiller, Courtney Stiving, Aleigha Thauvette, Ramsey and Bowman.

Certificat­es of participat­ion were presented to Sydney Bachtel, Dyonna Ball, Ava Burkhart, Brittany Cundiff, Natalie Grove, Ava Heimlich, Sadie Howarth, Chloe Hursh, Sara Krietemeye­r, Erin Lindsey, Sophia Long, Mackenzie Martincin, Jada Mountzgrov­e, Molly Ramsey and Sarah Turner.
