Rebekah Elliott

- By Emily Schwan

Rebekah Elliott has always loved being creative and forming relationships with people. She has always been interested in cosmetology and went to APEX Academy in Ontario to become a licensed cosmetologist. She decided in 2019 that she wanted to focus on nails and began working as a nail technician for a salon in Mansfield. However, in late 2020, Rebekah took the nail tech position at Local Roots salon in Shelby and has been there ever since. She loves working at Local Roots because it is a small, close-knit salon. She also feels that she can form close relationships with her clients. “I love meeting people, I feel like I have fifty best friends,” Rebekah says, smiling.

She is also very passionate about supporting local businesses. Rebekah says, “Support your local economy. Go to the gas stations in your town, go to the grocery stores in your town. If you’re looking for something, you can probably find it in Shelby.” She mentioned loving and appreciating the smalltown charm of Shelby. She said she loves her drive home from work because there are always people out and about enjoying the day.

Rebekah has a daughter named Nora who she loves spending time with when she isn’t doing nails. She mentioned being excited for Nora to be old enough to attend Shelby City Schools because they are “the perfect size.” She wants her daughter to meet people and to have good opportunities but appreciates the smalltown feel of the schools. Because her daughter is not old enough to attend school yet and isn’t involved in any activities, Rebekah often feels disconnected from the community. However, she said doing nails at Local Roots has helped her get involved and make connections in Shelby.

Rebekah loves living in Shelby with her husband, her daughter, and their beloved pets. They own a home that is located on the same street she grew up on so she can relive her good memories. She also loves working at Local Roots and recommends the cosmetology field to anyone who loves to be creative and make connections with people.
