Harold C. Metzger, age 71 and resident of Shelby, died Friday, May 27, 2022, at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. He was reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Nancy L. Metzger, after only four months following her passing January 26, 2022, at the age of 82. They were married on March 27, 1983.

Nancy was born January 27, 1939, in Akron to Wilbur and Helen Koffroth. She graduated from Buchtel High School in Akron and had been employed at The Autocall Co. in Shelby as a draftsman. She also worked as the parish secretary at Most Pure Heart of Mary assisting the church with various tasks.

Harold was born on September 12, 1950, in Crestline to Cecil and Leona (Rietschlin) Metzger. He had been a lifelong Shelby resident and worked as a draftsman at The Autocall Co. in Shelby for numerous years. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy.

Nancy and Harold were very involved in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. They volunteered on many retreats together, were eucharistic ministers, sang in the church choir, and helped with the church’s prayer chain.

Nancy was a past board member of Shelby Helpline Ministries, belonged to the Catholic Women’s Club, The Daughters of Isabella, and The Altar and Rosary Society. When not volunteering her time, Nancy enjoyed reading, gardening, and crafting.

Harold was a member of the PBA and was a skilled bowler, having bowled a perfect 300 game. He also enjoyed golfing, watching NASCAR, Indy, and Sprint car races.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Laura (Tim) Miller, son John (Peggy) Myers, grandchildren: Keri (William) Loeffler, Matthew (Bekah) Miller, Kristin Miller, Johnnie Myers, and Ashley (David) Wilson; her great-grandchildren: Lainey, Dillon, Morgan, Taylor, and Jaxzen; sister-in-law Lois Hunter, niece Karen Griffiths and nephew Glenn Griffiths.

Harold is survived by his siblings Janis Hobbs, Rosann (Bill) May, Gerald Metzger; niece Cindy Workman, nephews: Tom Roberts, Mark May, Tony May; and Godmother Charlene Spitan.

In addition to both sets of their parents, Harold and Nancy were preceded in death by Nancy’s siblings Linda and Tom Koffroth, Harold’s sister Marilyn Metzger, and Harold’s brother-in-law Raymond Hobbs.

A celebration of Harold and Nancy’s life will be held Friday, June 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West St., Shelby. Father Chris Mileski will be the celebrant with Fr. John Missler concelebrating.

In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and be left in care of the funeral home.

Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.barkdullfuneralhome.com
