Columbia Gas Project to Begin mid-june in Shelby
Columbia Gas is beginning a project on several Shelby streets in mid-june that will last three to four months. They will be working on parts of 2nd St., Oak St., E. Whitney Ave., E. Main St., 3rd St., 4th St., Clark Ave., and 6th St. Ben Cutler, the Columbia Gas project contact says that the current pipelines in those areas are old, and they are replacing them with plastic mainlines and service lines. This update will include enhanced safety features that will last about 100 years. They will also be upgrading the pressure of the mainlines so homeowners have more capacity for amenities like fire pits, outdoor grills, pool heaters, etc.
While Columbia Gas is heading up the project, they will be working with their contractor, Mid-ohio Pipeline. The team will start by doing prep work to make sure no other underground utilities are damaged during this process. Then, they will replace the main lines and service lines that connect to homes. Columbia Gas will schedule an appointment with the homeowner to connect the home to their gas system. They said that the gas system will be off during the instillation for your safety and they may relocate the meter to a different place at no additional cost.
After Columbia Gas is satisfied with the work, they will conduct a safety inspection and relight appliances. They also want to stress that after work is completed, they will repair or replace any sidewalks, driveways, landscaping, etc. that was affected by their work. They said, “our goal is to restore everything as close to its original condition as possible.” You can stay safe during the project by keeping children and pets away from construction areas, not parking in marked construction zones, and driving carefully around construction zones.
