Bailey’s parents (Anthony and Susan Slone) and most of her grandparents, and some of her aunts, uncles, and cousins still live in town. Cole said his favorite place to go in Shelby was always WW Skiles Field. “Friday nights in a small town are just different,” he said. He also said that his experiences attending games as a kid made his time on the varsity football team “that much more special.” Both Cole and Bailey enjoyed going to Seltzer Pool in Shelby during the summer. They both ended up becoming lifeguards at the pool.

Both Cole and Bailey went to Shelby City Schools from kindergarten through high school. Cole went to Dowds Elementary School from kindergarten to 5th grade when he transitioned to Central for 6th grade. He went to the old middle school building for 7th and 8th grade and spent 9th through 12th grade at the old high school (the current middle school). Cole was the class president for the Class of 2012. He was involved in football, swimming, tennis, band, choir, and theater. Bailey went to Russell, then Central, then the old middle school, and finally graduated from the old high school in 2013. Her favorite memories included being in cross country, swimming, track, band, and theater.

Both Cole and Bailey attended the University of Toledo and graduated with bachelor’s in biology and minors in Chemistry. They also both received their master’s degree from Toledo as well. From there, the couple went to Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in May 2022 with their

D.O. In March of 2022, they successfully couples matched for residency and recently started their new jobs as physicians at Ohiohealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus where they both currently reside.

Both Cole and Bailey enjoyed growing up in Shelby. “For a small town, Shelby provides high-quality educational opportunities. This foundation served me well as I transitioned to undergraduate and graduate school. You always feel like you have support when you grow up in a small community like Shelby,” said Cole. Bailey said she felt very supported in the Shelby community and that helped her push to accomplish her goal of becoming a doctor. When asked what they miss about Shelby, they both mentioned the small-town feel. Cole mentioned that the small-town athletics are unmatched while Bailey said she misses being around her family. This successful couple was able to get their jump start in Shelby and they value that experience to this day.
