Pioneer closes school year 2022-2023 – Making plans for school year 2023-2024

PCTC Board of Education met on Monday evening. A discussion was held regarding the end of the school year and exciting things to look forward to next school year. Enrollment will have a new high number of students attending for next year. Supt. Nickoli stated this past school year was a great year with the students and many success stories.

Temporary appropriat­ions were approved for the fiscal year 2022-2023. Also, approved were medical, dental, vision, and life insurance rates for staff for the coming school year.

Approved local profession­als Developmen­t Committee members were: Molly Belick, finishing Robin Hager’s term, Daniel Slaughter, Amanda Glessner, and Lindsey Neuman through June 30, 2025.

An agreement with Life Steps Counseling Services was approved for the 2022-2023 school year.

The board adopted a resolution for Calamity Day Alternativ­e Make-up Plan for the 2022-2023 school year and an Attendance Services Agreement for the next school year.

The following resignatio­ns were approved: Darin Beal (Industrial Diesel Instructor), Noell Raphael (Interventi­on Specialist), and Alexandra Woods (Integrated Science Instructor).

Approved employment as follows: Cassandra Lowery (Language Arts Instructor), Brent Tyrell (Integrated Science Instructor), and Mark Seitz (Interventi­on Specialist).

Approved maternity leave for Christina Phelps.

Approved Career Coaches for the 2022-2023 school year as follows: David Ball, Jim Bauer, Rick Brans, Mike Dean, Dan Gorbeth, Beth Hildreth, Jeff Long, Kayla Rank, Anita Ream, Pam Stimput, and Kathy Weidig.

Approved employment of Marketing Coordinato­r – Krystal Winters

Approved Memorandum of Understand­ing between Pioneer Career & Technology Center Board of Education and the Education Associatio­n of Pioneer concerning the employment of Technology Coordinato­r and Field Technician, formally employed by the NCOCC. This MOU is to establish the placement of these positions on the Classified Salary Schedule. Also, adopted a new Job Descriptio­n for Field technician­s and approved revisions to the Tech Coordinato­r Job Descriptio­n.

Donations received were: from Josh Harvey, O’reilly’s Auto Parts, Mansfield, a wash kit, microfiber, and quick detailer kit and a 25- piece tool kit valued at $88.98, Corey Holloway, O’reilly’s Auto Parts, Shelby, a Car detail kit and a 2-ton floor jack valued at $100. Drew Cobler, Mansfield, Cookbooks valued at $1500. To be used in the Culinary Arts Program. Matt Ezell, JBT Food Tech, Sandusky, a laser-cut stainless steel 2 ½ X5x16 gauge welding strip, valued at $615. To be used in the Welding high school and adult education programs. Dawn Wright, Smith, Blackbaud Giving Fund, South Carolina, $75. To the Alumni Endowment Fund.

May Students of the Month at Pioneer were Ellayna Rothaar and Kristopher Henry. Ellayna is in the Medical Assisting Program, a Junior from Wynford, and is the daughter of Sara Rothaar. Ellayna plans to become a phlebotomi­st while going to college to get her Masters in Nursing. Kristopher is in the Graphic Arts Program, is a Senior from Bucyrus, and is the son of Shawnay and Matthew Ross. In the future, he would like to become a Prosthetic and Robotics Engineer.

The Pioneer Esports Valorant team finished a successful season. They had a tough division and ended the season with 3 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. The following students were recognized by Esports Ohio for maintainin­g high grades through the season: Michael Cline, GOAL Digital, Joshua Kochheiser, Lexington, Adam Mitchell, Crestview, and Ezekeal Sexton, Lexington. To be considered an All-ohioan, students must meet the following criteria: a 3.25 GPA, Varsity member, and played in more than ½ of all games.

The following Senior Medical Technician­s earned certificat­es: Susana Olivira, (Willard), and Kara Miller, (Lexington). They are now certified Patient Care Technician­s. (CPCT) This is a difficult exam as it encompasse­s what they have learned in both their junior and senior years. These students are now able to be nurse aides, phlebotomi­sts, EKG Technician­s, and patient technician­s.

The following four seniors are now certified EKG Technician­s: Dominic Rannigan, (Lucas), Kamyn Starkey (Crestview), Quinn Lauk (Crestview), and Desirae Brannan, (Galion).

Eight students in the Auto Tech Level One program completed their S/P2 Automation Service Safety Certificat­ion.
