Special guest presentation and a new trustee to serve the Shelby Alumni Association

-

Saturday, February 11th, the Shelby Alumni Association meeting was filled with a lot of discussions, a presentation, and a new trustee added to the organization. Randy Broderick was nominated by the nomination committee (Cathy Dodge and Greg Daniel) to become a trustee. Welcome, Randy!

Carrie Kemerer, Shelby Foundation Director, gave a presentation about the possibility of the Alumni Association entering into a partnership. She provided insight into what the Foundation has gone through and the growth they have had over the past 9 years. The Foundation has a finance committee that includes a conservative investment policy that drives the portfolio. The partnership opportunity presented to the Alumni Association is called an Agency Fund.

If the Association decides to join in partnership with the Foundations Agency Funds, the Foundation will manage the money given to the Foundation. If for whatever the arrangement between the Foundation and the Alumni Association does not work out as expected the group can remove their money at any time. The purpose of Agency Funds is longevity and managing the funds. The goal of the Foundation is to help the Alumni Association grow its funds.

Kemerer also spoke as a representative of CIC on the progress of downtown renovations. Phase II is in progress regarding the downtown park.

President Tom Armstrong, proposed a motion to take the $10,000, which was donated recently to the Alumni Association from the Eagles, to begin a contract with the Foundation. Tom will work with Carrie to develop a contract which will be brought back to the board for review and ultimately, approval.

Superintendent Tim Tarvin gave a quick update on the demolition of the Central School building and Skiles Field. The future of the land where the building and the football field are still in the talking and negotiation stages.

The online auction will end on February 14th. Once the auction items are picked up, the demolition process will begin at Central School. The goal is to have the building down by the end of May. The grandstands at Skiles are planned to be down by midsummer.

Tarvin reported the East end of the Smiley Avenue school building is in the process of being finished. The board has moved to this property.

A discussion was held about the baseball field and the roadway construction in process.

A discussion was held about posting the website regarding the donor box and subscribing. Also, posting the website of the Whippet Echoes. To subscribe to the Whippet Echoes go to gdaniel0488@gmail.com. Greg Daniel puts many hours into sending out the latest news about Shelby alumni.
