- By Emily Schwan

Monday night at Marvin Memorial Library was a sweet one. The multipurpose room was almost full to the brim of library employees, judges, volunteers, and community members hoping to taste the entries at the 2023 Cookie Bake-off. Bakers of all age groups entered their cookie creations into the contest for a chance to win some cool prizes sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

The three adult categories were: Decorated Cookies, Drop Cookies, and Bar Cookies. There was also one category for kids: Any Kind of Cookie. There were two prize winners in each category. Once the judging was completed and winners announced, samples were given out to whoever in the crowd wanted a taste.

Katie Sammons won first place in the Decorated Cookies category for her “Buttercream Delights” Easter cookies, with Breanna Nelson winning second in the same category for her “Painted Lavender Lemon Cookies.” Both designs were so beautiful!

For the Kids category, Hayden Davidson won first place with her “Chewy Chocolate Cookies.” The second place winner in the same category was Sarah Lewis with her “Soft Cut-out Sugar Cookies.”

Lin Jenkins won first place in the Bar Cookies category with her “Oatmeal Carmelitas” cookies with Jen Sauder winning second place with her “7 Layer Cookie Bars.”

Lastly, in the Drop Cookies category, Nancy Tishner won first place with her “Frosted Cranberry Drop Cookies” and Nancy Bebout won second place with her “Soft Ginger Molasses Cookies.”

As Adult Programming Coordinator, Shelly Krystofik, said: “Congratulations to the winners and everybody else is a winner too because the cookies look so good.” MML also provided a packet with all the recipes for the cookies entered into Bake-off so that the crowd could try the recipes out themselves.

In that packet, MML included an acknowledgement page to thank those who participated and volunteered their time to the Cookie Bakeoff. They thanked Judges Chris, Garland, Debbie, Jack, Ed, Kaylen, and John. They thanked Servers Sue M., Sue L., Pat, Rich, Chris, Mary, Aileen, and Sally. Finally, they thanked Participants Gail, Anita, Breanna, Kristina, Cheryl, Nancy T., Gretchen, Pam, Zac, Jen, Janice, Katie, Sarah, Nancy L., Lin, and Audra.
