Northern Richland Deer Management Plan awards
SHILOH, Ohio – The Northern Richland Deer Management Plan participants wrapped up their contest with donuts, coffee and awards on Feb. 11. Fifty-nine people met to enjoy fellowship, swap hunt stories and see how their bucks measured up. The Sportsman’s Den sponsored prizes. Payout from the entry fees were presented as Sportsman’s Den gift cards.
The top rack, which scored 154 ⅜”, was brought in by Jeff Bradford and netted the hunter a $350 payout; a clay pigeon thrower; a full shoulder mount, donated by Wayne Burkholder; a trail cam, donated by Eric Brubaker and bragging rights for the year. Second place went to Ellis Zimmerman, who received a $265 payout and a clay pigeon thrower.
Third place was Landon Martin who received $130 and an Old Timers Knife set. Fourth place was Konner Korbas, receiving $90 and a Remingon knife set. Fifth place went to Larry Zimmerman who received $45 and a hat. The top youth hunter, Ruben Newswanger, also received prizes: an antler mount plaque kit, donated by Glenn Newswanger and a trail cam, donated by Eric Brubaker.
This neighborhood contest started in 2021 in an attempt to promote having higher quality deer in the area, encourage people to feed mineral during rack growth and “passing up the little guys” to let them grow into their potential… something you’d be proud to put on the wall.
Participation doubled this year and they hope to see more hunters join next season. The contest is open to hunters in the area from the northern County line south to the Rover pipeline; participation fees must be paid prior to hunting and no participants may join after the first day of gun season.
