Local News Plymouth passes legislation for village improvement
Last Tuesday’s Plymouth Village Council meeting saw the passing of several resolutions, all of which were related to improvements around the community.
West Broadway
Officials have been discussing and planning for the West Broadway project for many, many months now.
The project aims to “improve residential conditions now subject to excess surface water-run-off” because of increased “rainfall and water run-off due to climate change.”
And last week saw, arguably, one of the most important pieces of legislation passed for the implementation of the project.
A motion to approve the expenditure of $26, 640 from American Rescue Plan funds for the West Broadway/ Walnut Street Storm Sewer Project was passed.
Additionally, there was an ordinance to repeal a previous ordinance and reserve funds in the West Broadway Paving Fund because the West Broadway Paving Improvement is now fully funded. Council will consider future paving projects, as well as their designated funding and council now desires to reserve the funds until the project is complete.
Mary fate Park improvements
A resolution was passed last week to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Department of Natural
Resources (ODNR) for the acceptance of a Capital Improvement Community Park Recreation/ Conservation Grant for $24,5000. The money will be used for improving the basketball court at Mary Fate Park.
The grant is for $25,000 but ODNR takes $500. The court is estimated to cost around $23,000, councilman Matt Patrick said, and two highquality basketball hoops should cost an additional $3,500.
Safe routes to school project
“Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is an approach that promotes walking and bicycling to school through infrastructure improvements, enforcement, tools, safety education, and incentives to encourage walking and bicycling to school,” according to transportation.gov.
A resolution was passed to approve the village’s participation in the ODOT award to the Plymouth Board of Education for the project. The resolution will also authorize the Village Administrator, to complete the LPA scope of services.
ODOT has awarded $4000,000 to the Plymouth-shiloh Local Schools for the project and construction of such requires village approval.
The resolution approved the village’s participation and allowed the village to “participate in the reasonable completion of the project provided there is no expenditure of Village funds.”
