Meldon Lane Current
Meldon Lane Current, 83, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Aug. 20, 2016, at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab. He was born in College Place, Wash., on Nov. 27, 1932, to Paul and Phyllis Current.
He grew up during the depression years in small farming communities in Washington State around the White Salmon, Wash., area.
He attended Columbia Academy in Battleground, Wash., where he met and later married Anna May Graham on July 12, 1951. The couple lived in the Northwest for several years as they began their family. He had various job experience in those years that included Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company, partnership in a small sawmill with his father, several furniture factories and becoming a certified mechanic for Volkswagen of America.
Job opportunities relocated the family to Boulder, Colo., where he worked alongside his brother in the construction business learning the trade. He ventured out on his own, and ran his own crews for many years teaching and leaving his legacy with his son, and son-in-law.
The Currents moved to Arkansas in the mid 1980s, purchasing a small chicken farm, where they could be comfortable and still remain active. The Currents were members of and attended the Springtown Seventh-day Adventist Church. They helped coordinate and became charter members of the local Tired Irons of the Ozarks. During their early retirement years they enjoyed meeting new friends at various tractor shows, winters in Arizona, and traveling in their motor-home across country to visit family and friends.
He was preceded in death by four siblings; one granddaughter; and his wife of 55 years.
He is survived by one brother, Neilan Current and wife Jeanne of Casper, Wyo.; and three children, Rose Miller and husband Billy of Gentry, Ark., Lois Warner and husband Gary of Masonville, Colo., and Duane Current and wife Darla of Davenport, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and a few great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing for family and friends will be held at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug 26.
