JBU students perform comedy ‘Parfumerie’

- From Staff Reports

John Brown University’s fall drama production of “Parfumerie.”

The production will be held in the Berry Performing Arts Center and showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 7, and 2 p.m. Oct. 8.

“Parfumerie” follows the amusing tale of shop employee George Horvath, who’s wrongly accused of having an affair with his boss’ wife and unknowingly falls in love with his estranged co-worker.

Originally written in the 1930s by Hungarian writer Miklos Laszlo, JBU students will perform the translation and adaption of the script by Laszlo’s American nephew, E.P. Dowdall.

“This play has something for everyone: humor, romance, moral dilemmas and mystery, all in the interesting setting of Budapest, Hungary, in 1936,” Jan Lauderdale, JBU’s drama instructor and play director, said. “We have a delightfully talented cast of JBU students who are developing wonderful and deep characters. Every patron will be able to identify with a character in the play.”

The show inspired the movies “The Shop Around the Corner,” “She Loves Me,” “In the Good Old Summertime” and “You’ve Got Mail.”

Tickets are available for purchase at jbu.edu/tickets/ or by phone at 479524-7382. Season tickets for all JBU stage productions and Artist Series are also available online or by phone.
