Fundraiser breakfast/ band
The Siloam Springs Senior Activity and Wellness Center will host a weekly fundraiser breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Friday at the center, located at 750 Heritage Court. The fundraiser is open to all ages. The center will also host the OK Country Band at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. The performance is free and open to anyone.
New collection of children’s books
Local master gardener and children’s author, Dawn Denton, donated 30 percent of her book sale proceeds for the months of November and December of 2015 to the Friends of the Siloam Springs Library Foundation. Her donation will purchase an award-winning collection of nature and gardenthemed children’s books for the Siloam Springs Public Library. Denton’s goal is to see children and parents in our community being inspired by reading to get outside and make new discoveries in nature. This year, Denton plans to donate a percentage of her book sale proceeds to the library’s children’s collection again over the months of October, November and December. Friends of the Library Bookstore
The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in the new Siloam Springs Public Library — features a large selection of used paperback and hardback books, CDs and DVDs at very low prices, most ranging from 50 cents to $3. All proceeds will be used to benefit the children’s summer reading program and other library needs. The bookstore depends on donations — especially of recent publications in good condition. Friends of the Library also desires new members who would like to further its mission through payment of dues, volunteering, or fundraising. Information about membership is available at the library.
Tailwaggers seeking volunteers and donations
Tailwaggers is seeking volunteers to walk dogs and socialize cats at the city animal shelter. They are also in need of donations of chewies, rawhides, cat toys and dog harnesses for the animal shelter. Donations can be dropped off at the animal shelter located at 1300 East Ashley St. Call 238-3612 for more information.
Yoga classes
Bridges to Wellness and the Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring Yoga classes. Classes will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday nights at the Arvest Community Room across the street from 28 Springs. The cost for classes is $3.
Coffee with the Commander
American Legion Post 29 in Siloam Springs announces a re-start of ‘Coffee with the Commander.’ This program is designed to familiarize local veterans with the programs of The American Legion and the activities of the local Post. Its members also want to learn if any of its programs need refinement by receiving input from nonmembers of the Post.
The informal meeting will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. each Saturday in the basement of the Community Building. Anyone who has “put the Uniform on” and served on active duty is invited. All subjects are open for discussion except politics and religion.
To the local veterans, “We speak your language.”
CrossTraining
CrossTraining is held at 3DPT from 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The group shares in scripture, prays and then has a 45- to 60-minute workout. The class is free but voluntary donations can be made to help support the cost of utilities and equipment. For more information, contact Johnny Pittman at 479-220-1967.
Kansas Public Library
The Kansas Public Library has lots of activities to enjoy. The library has a new “Freegal Music Service” that offers over 10,000 music labels from 65 countries. A library patron in good standing may download three songs a week for free from https://eodls. freegalmusic.com. Refreshments will be provided. Wheelchair ramp assistance
Kind at Heart Ministries is taking applications for wheelchair ramp and porch steps assistance. The service is free.
