Swimmers third at Clarksvill­e

CLARKSVILL­E — The Siloam Springs swim teams competed Monday at the Clarksvill­e Winter Invitation­al held at the Clarksvill­e Aquatic Center in what was the final swim meet of 2016.

The teams combined to finish third out of nine teams at the event.

Cabot finished first with 982.5 points, followed by Springdale with 745, Siloam Springs 568, Clarksvill­e 326, Little Rock Christian 273.5, Russellvil­le 178, Vilonia 136, Lamar 121 and Scranton 32.

Cabot won the boys meet with 502 points, while Siloam Springs was second at 406, followed by Springdale 247, Little Rock Christian 172, Clarksvill­e 146, Russellvil­le 44, Vilonia 31 and Lamar 13.

Springdale won the girls division with 498 points, followed by Cabot 480.5, Clarksvill­e 180, Siloam Springs in fourth with 162, Russellvil­le 134, Lamar 108, Vilonia 105, Little Rock Christian 101.5 and Scranton 32.

Highlighti­ng the meet for Siloam Springs were six first-place finishes for the boys team, including taking the top spot in two of the three relays.

In the girls 200-yard medley relay, the team of Baleigh Butler, Britain Castagna, Caroline Farine and Shayla Enlow placed sixth with a time of 2:28.16, while the team of Chandler Losh, McKenzie Blanchard, Olivia Schaap and Megan Rush finished eighth overall with a time of 2:39.22.

The boys 200-yard medley relay team of Kruger, Hayden Moore, Suarez and Stephen Grant placed second at 1:56.13. The team of Tyler Sharp, Zachary Becan, Harrison Losh and Ethan Andrus took seventh at 2:30.95.

Schaap placed ninth in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay at 2:38.23.

Brittan Butler blasted the competitio­n in the 200-yard freestyle relay by more than 11 seconds with a first-place finish of 1 minute, 53.27 seconds. Butler qualified for the state meet in the event. Also in the 200 freestyle, Eduardo Suarez was fourth with a mark of 2:08.52 and scored 15 points, while Chase Kruger was seventh at 2:20.51 and Ethan Davis ninth at 2:29.36.

Quade Greening placed eighth in the boys 200yard individual medley at 3:03.06.

Enlow took 12th in the girls 50-yard freestyle with a time of 31:19, while Jennifer Reyes was 50th at 45.31.

Will O’Hare landed the Panthers’ next first place finish with a state-qualifying time of 23.23 in the boys 50-yard freestyle, while teammate Beever finished second at 23.52, just missing a state qualifier by two hundredths of a second. Grant was third at 24.02. Moore placed seventh at 24.80, while Nick Woodard was 12th at 27.64, Becan 27th at 30.82, Harrison Losh 28th at 31.28, Steven Walls 35th at 31.86, Sean Jeppsen 37th at 32.06, Tyler Sharp 41st at 33.24 and Max Ketcher 55th at 47.74.

Brittan Butler won the boys 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.43, while Lee Thompson was sixth at 1:06.96 and Harrison Losh 11th at 1:33.49.

Siloam Springs had the top five finishers in the boys 100-yard freestyle, led by a first-place finish of 53.52 from O’Hare, followed by Beever in second at 54.30, Suarez third at 55.37, Grant fourth at 55.93 and Thompson fifth at 1:02.06. Andrus was seventh at 1:04.35, while Greening took 11th at 1:07.22, Walls 18th at 1:12.11 and Ketcher 34th at 1:43.70.

Farine took fifth place in the girls 500-yard freestyle with a time of 7:17.63, while Chandler Losh was sixth at 8:02.30.

Ethan Davis finished fourth in the boys 500-yard freestyle at 7:08.78.

The girls 200-yard freestyle relay team of Farine, Schaap, Enlow and Baleigh Butler placed fourth at 2:07.74, while the team of Chandler Losh, Rush, Blanchard and Castagna placed ninth at 2:29.25.

The boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Beever, Brittan Butler, Grant and O’Hare placed first at 1:36.23, while the team of Thompson, Woodard, Andrus and Kruger placed sixth at 1:50.95.

Baleigh Butler placed eighth in the girls 100yard backstroke at 1:24.81, while Blanchard was 13th at 1:35.97 and Rush 15th at 1:49.63.

Jeppsen placed fifth in the boys 100-yard backstroke at 1:28.11.

Castagna was ninth in the girls 100-yard breaststro­ke at 1:35.24.

Moore placed fourth in the boys 100-yard breaststro­ke, while Becan was ninth at 1:28.68.

The girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Schaap, Enlow, Farine and Baleigh Butler placed fourth at 4:52.14, while the team of Blanchard, Rush, Chandler Losh and Castagna was ninth at 6:03.63.

The boys 400-yard freestyle relay team of Brittan Butler, Beever, Suarez and O’Hare took first at 3:36.86, while the Panthers’ other relay team of Moore, Thompson, Kruger and Andrus was second at 4:05.08.

“Awesome meet!” said Siloam Springs swimming coach Stephanie Goddard. “Our boys relays were so fun to watch.”

Siloam Springs is now off until Jan. 9 when it returns to Clarksvill­e for another swim meet.

“It was a fun meet and we are excited to go back on January 9th,” Goddard said.
