Library amnesty weeks

Do you have any library items out that are overdue and need to be turned in? Amnesty weeks at the Siloam Springs Public Library will be Dec. 19, 2016 to Jan. 8, 2017. During this time, accrued fines on items that are presently checked out will be waived. Any items returned during this time will be covered by the amnesty. Items that are returned damaged will not be covered by the amnesty. Also, fines and fees that are currently on the record will not be waived. Siloam Springs Writers to meet Jan. 9

The Siloam Springs Writers will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 9, at First Baptist Church, 2000 W. Dawn Hill Road. Please note change of date and place. The Writers will be reading and critiquing their writings. Prose assignment for January — Winter Weather, Poetry assignment — a Quatrain on Winter Weather (max. 32 lines.) All interested writers are invited to attend. Refreshmen­ts will be served.

Senior exercise options

The Walton Lifetime Health Complex on the campus of John Brown University is a participat­ing facility for both SilverSnea­kers and Silver&Fit programs. These programs are designed for senior Medicare/Medicaid eligible members and offer a unique blend of physical activity for all. Classes are offered five days a week and are taught by certified instructor­s. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. There also is a class that meets in the indoor pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday called “Splash.” If eligible, a SilverSnea­kers or Silver&Fit membership could be covered by insurance at no charge or for a maximum of $25 a year. Friends of the Library Bookstore

The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in Siloam Springs Public Library — has a great assortment of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, audio books — most priced under $2. Featured is a group of Christmast­hemed items, a large selection of children’s books, and a collection of vintage books, which would make wonderful gifts.

Signs in the library will guide patrons to the bookstore area. Friends of the Library uses all proceeds from the store to benefit the library, especially the children’s programmin­g. Donations of gently used books and electronic media are always welcomed.

Fundraiser breakfast/ band

The Siloam Springs Senior Activity and Wellness Center will host a weekly fundraiser breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Friday at the center, located at 750 Heritage Court. The fundraiser is open to all ages. The center will also host the OK Country Band at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. The performanc­e is free and open to anyone.

Manna Center Thrift Store

The Manna Center Thrift Store is now accepting credit and debit cards for purchases of $10 or more to make it easier for customers to shop. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Customers can like the thrift store on Facebook or stop by and see what the dollar item is for the week. Anything over a month old is half price. The Manna Center is located at 670 Heritage Court, behind the Senior Activity and Wellness Center on Tulsa Street.

Tailwagger­s seeking volunteers, donations

Tailwagger­s is seeking volunteers to walk dogs and socialize cats at the city animal shelter. They are also in need of donations of chewies, rawhides, cat toys and dog harnesses for the animal shelter. Donations can be dropped off at the animal shelter located at 1300 East Ashley St. Call 238-3612 for more informatio­n.
