Post-Christmas musing

- Louis Houston

This past prolonged spell of cold weather just reinforced my dislike of winter. I would be perfectly content without winter. Snow holds no fascination for me if it is too polluted for making snow ice cream. Everything that could be inconvenient occurs. During winter, driving is more hazardous and keeping warm becomes our top priority.

I assume everyone got what he or she wanted for Christmas. If not, maybe next year. That’s what my grandma used to say.

It has been a good time for watching TV, like “The Sound of Music” with Julie Andrews.

That show and “”The Phantom of the Opera” are my all-time favorite musicals. I just read that Bette Midler is going to star in a remake of “Hello, Dolly.” That should be superb.

We’ve used our fireplace insert to help warm our house, and we’ve already used more wood than we used all last winter. Fortunately, we have more trees than anything on our property.

The magazines for weeks have been full of holiday recipes which most of us have over-indulged in. So now, we shall be besieged with magazines featuring diet recipes. They tempt us with all these goodies, and then they put us on starvation diets.

Someone has to take care of all those leftovers, I say, and it might as well be moi’!
