Robert Henry, who had held a lease on the Lake Frances Hotel and some 1,800 acres in the park area, chose not to re-new his lease after Dec. 31 when the lease would expire. The property was owned by the Lake Frances Corporation.

During Henry’s lease, a 9-hole golf course was in operation, until three years prior; the hotel was used as a Boy’s Camp and in recent years had been rented to church groups for summer encampments and to clubs and organizations for parties.

Henry stated he had notified all of the families living in the park area rental houses of the change to be made at the end of the year. 30 Years Ago

The Siloam Springs Panthers swept three games from the Lincoln Wolves in Siloam Springs. The boys junior varsity won the opening contest 52-44. The girls then beat the Lady Wolves 50-30 and the varsity boys won the nightcap 62-52.

The Lady Panthers improved their record to 5-5 with their 50-30 win. Tracey Trembly paced the Lady Panthers with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the contest.

The varsity boys turned in a lackluster performance in their 62-52 win over the scrappy Wolves. The win lifted the Panthers’ record to 7-3.

About 40 children shopped at Wal-Mart Supercenter with members of Siloam Springs Fraternal Order of Police for Shop with a Cop.

Each child received about $100 to spend on clothing and toys.

Fraternal Order of Police hosted Bike-a-Palooza and Cop on Top to raise money for Shop with a Cop. Cop on Top is where a police officer sits on top of WalMart raising money.

Cpl. Derek Spicer of Siloam Springs Police Department said that was the first year that the Fraternal Order of Police here had hosted Shop with a Cop.

The previous year the group hosted Santa Cops.

He said Shop with a Cop is better because the children get to shop with the police officers instead of the police officers coming as Santa and distributing gifts.
