Siloam Springs Toastmaste­rs Club

The Siloam Springs Toastmaste­rs Club meets each Thursday of every month at DaySpring Corporate Offices from 12 to 1 p.m. Guests are welcome. The Toastmaste­rs program offers many benefits that help people in all walks of life. As a result of participat­ing in Toastmaste­rs, members:

• Increase self-confidence

• Become a better speaker • Become a better leader • Communicat­e more effectivel­y

Some companies reimburse their employee for membership dues and give hourly credit toward employee training. The club welcomes any local company interested in hosting a demo meeting to contact the club.

Harvard Street Closure

The closure of Harvard Street, between Oak Hill Street and Elm Street, for city maintenanc­e work has been extended until Jan. 9.

Family Game Night

Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation will host Family Game Night at the Community Building from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. This is a free event. Participan­ts will have the opportunit­y to play Bingo and a variety of board games. Prizes will be awarded and refreshmen­ts will be served. This event will be a fun time for all ages.

Library amnesty weeks

Do you have any library items out that are overdue and need to be turned in? Amnesty weeks at the Siloam Springs Public Library will run through Jan. 8, 2017. During this time, accrued fines on items that are presently checked out will be waived. Any items returned during this time will be covered by the amnesty. Items that are returned damaged will not be covered by the amnesty. Also, fines and fees that are currently on the record will not be waived. Siloam Springs Writers to meet Jan. 9

The Siloam Springs Writers will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, at First Baptist Church, 2000 W. Dawn Hill Road. Please note change of date and place. The Writers will be reading and critiquing their writings. Prose assignment for January — Winter Weather, Poetry assignment — a Quatrain on Winter Weather (max. 32 lines.) All interested writers are invited to attend. Refreshmen­ts will be served.

Senior exercise options

The Walton Lifetime Health Complex on the campus of John Brown University is a participat­ing facility for both SilverSnea­kers and Silver&Fit programs. These programs are designed for senior Medicare/ Medicaid eligible members and offer a unique blend of physical activity for all. Classes are offered five days a week and are taught by certified instructor­s. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. There also is a class that meets in the indoor pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday called “Splash.” If eligible, a SilverSnea­kers or Silver&Fit membership could be covered by insurance at no charge or for a maximum of $25 a year.
