Ninth-grade girls go 1-2 in Van Buren, boys 0-2

VAN BUREN — The Siloam Springs ninth-grade girls finished 1-2 and in fifth place in the Van Buren Tournament this past week after losing to Russellvil­le 44-26 on Friday morning.

The Lady Panthers opened the tournament with a close loss to Ozark on Wednesday before beating Van Buren on Thursday.

Madison Pharr led the Lady Panthers (6-6) with 11 points, while Shelby Johnson had six, Jael Harried four, Brooke Henderson three and Morgan Winesburg two.

Siloam Springs 36, Van Buren 27

The Lady Panthers picked up a win Friday in the second round of the Van Buren Tournament with a victory over the Lady Pointers.

Siloam Springs led 15-9 at halftime and outscored Van Buren 21-18 in the second half.

Jael Harried scored 14 points to lead Siloam Springs, while Shelby Johnson had nine, Morgan Winesburg six, Madison Pharr four and Turtle Shreve three.

Ozark 26, Siloam Springs 22

The Lady Panthers lost their opening game of the Van Buren Tournament to Ozark Wednesday morning.

Jael Harried had nine points, while Turtle Shreve had six, Madison Pharr four and Morgan Winesburg three.

Boys Russellvil­le 49, Siloam Springs 21

The Cyclones outscored the Panthers 12-0 in the second quarter and 21-9 in the second half on their way to a big win in the second round of the Van Buren Invitation­al on Thursday.

Because there is no seventhpla­ce game, Thursday’s loss was the Panthers’ final game of the tournament.

Russellvil­le led 16-12 after the first quarter and 28-12 at halftime. The Cyclones extended that lead to 40-19 going into the fourth quarter.

Drew Vachon led the Panthers (4-7) with 15 points, while Thad Wright, Mason and Cooper each had two for Siloam Springs.

Alma 60, Siloam Springs 47

Alma outscored Siloam Springs 14-4 in the second quarter to take control in an opening round victory at the Van Buren Tournament on Wednesday morning.

The Airedales led 16-14 after the first quarter and 30-18 at halftime. Alma pulled ahead 4829 entering the fourth quarter.

Jordan Stewart led the Panthers with nine points, while Drew Vachon had seven, Jackson Norberg six, Thad Wright and Evan Sauer each with five, Isaac Price, Landon Ward and Ransom Van Asche with three, Carson Wleklinski, Shadd Holmes and Tatem Criner each with two.

Both the ninth-grade teams and eighth-grade teams play at Alma on Thursday. A four-game night begins in Charles B. Dyer Arena at 4 p.m.
