Daddy-Daughter Dance

Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation will host its annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on Feb. 10-11 at the Siloam Springs Community Building, located at 110 North Mount Olive.

There are two dances for girls in fourth grade-and-younger — Friday, Feb. 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The dance for girls in fifth-grade and older is Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Cost is $20 for one dad and up to two daughters, with $5 for each additional daughter.

Tickets are available for purchase at the Parks and Recreation office located at 120 South Mt. Olive Street through 5 p.m. on Feb. 10. Participan­ts are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. There will not be ticket sales at the door.

Writers Guild to meet Feb. 13

The Siloam Springs Writers Guild will meet on Monday evening, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 2000 W. Dawn Hill Road, west entrance. Rosemary Matthews will present a lesson on “How to Write Poetry.” February assignment­s are: Prose — Presidenti­al Stories; Poetry — a Love Sonnet of 14 lines. The Writers welcome all interested poets and writers of prose to attend. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Rememberin­g WWII

Legislator­s to speak

Three regional legislator­s will visit Siloam Springs in person during the 2017 session of the Arkansas General Assembly to communicat­e with and listen to citizens.

State Representa­tives Robin Lundstrum and Dan Douglas and State Senator Jim Hendren will discuss current legislatio­n and citizens’ concerns in one-hour sessions on three upcoming Saturdays, Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and March 25. The local gatherings will be held downtown from 11 a.m. to noon in the Arvest Bank Community Room downtown. The lawmakers will hold similar meetings beforehand in Bentonvill­e and Rogers on the same days, as well as other scheduled days. No reservatio­ns are required, and citizens are welcome.

There will be no charge and no refreshmen­ts will be served.

Volunteer needed

The Senior Activity and Wellness Center is in need of a volunteer to deliver meals every Wednesday. The route starts at 10:45 a.m. and takes about an hour-and-a-half to complete. The route can be shared with a friend or group. Call 479-524-5735 for details.

Siloam Springs Toastmaste­rs Club

The Siloam Springs Toastmaste­rs Club meets each Thursday of every month at DaySpring Corporate Offices from 12 to 1 p.m. Guests are welcome. The Toastmaste­rs program offers many benefits that help people in all walks of life. As a result of participat­ing in Toastmaste­rs, members:

• Become a better leader

• Communicat­e more effectivel­y

Some companies reimburse their employee for membership dues and give hourly credit toward employee training. The club welcomes any local company interested in hosting a demo meeting to contact the club.

Senior exercise options

The Walton Lifetime Health Complex on the campus of John Brown University is a participat­ing facility for both SilverSnea­kers and Silver&Fit programs. These programs are designed for senior Medicare/Medicaid eligible members and offer a unique blend of physical activity for all. Classes are offered five days a week and are taught by certified instructor­s. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. There also is a class that meets in the indoor pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday called “Splash.” If eligible, a SilverSnea­kers or Silver&Fit membership could be covered by insurance at no charge or for a maximum of $25 a year. Fundraiser breakfast/ band

The Siloam Springs Senior Activity and Wellness Center will host a weekly fundraiser breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Friday at the center, located at 750 Heritage Court. The fundraiser is open to all ages.

The center will also host the OK Country Band at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. The performanc­e is free and open to anyone.

Manna Center Thrift Store

The Manna Center Thrift Store is now accepting credit and debit cards for purchases of $10 or more to make it easier for customers to shop. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Customers can like the thrift store on Facebook or stop by and see what the dollar item is for the week. Anything over a month old is half price. The Manna Center is located at 670 Heritage Court, behind the Senior Activity and Wellness Center on Tulsa Street.

Wheelchair ramp assistance

Kind at Heart Ministries is taking applicatio­ns for wheelchair ramp and porch steps assistance. The service is free.
