Kansas girls finish first at Jay’s Tri-State Classic

JAY, Okla. — The Kansas (Okla.) girls basketball team went 3-0 last week to win first place at the Tri-State Classic held at Jay (Okla.) High School.

The Lady Comets opened the tournament on Thursday with an 80-15 win over the Jay junior varsity team and followed up on Friday with a 61-31 win against Seneca, Mo. The Lady Comets then defeated Jay 62-25 in the championsh­ip on Saturday.

The Kansas boys finished 1-2 in the tournament. The Comets won 61-57 against the NWA Hornets behind 27 points from Kalin Parsons and 19 from Dylan Siers. The Comets lost 65-57 to Redemptive Life on Friday and then dropped a 4641 decision to HFC Warriors in the third place game.

Both Kansas teams hosted Salina on Tuesday night. Results were not available at presstime. Both teams play at Dewey on Friday.

Colcord

CHOUTEAU, Okla. — Both Colcord teams went 1-2 and finished seventh last week in the Chouteau Tournament.

The Colcord boys lost to Salina 64-40 in the opening round on Thursday, behind 11 points from Matthew Farris. Spencer Earp scored 13 points, Farris 11 and Ryan Castleman 10 in Colcord’s 72-53 loss to Chouteau on Friday. The Hornets rebounded to beat Dove Science 7638 in the seventh-place game on Saturday.

The Salina girls beat Colcord 73-53 on Thursday, and Chouteau defeated Colcord 67-48 on Friday with 14 points from Michaela Ellis, and 10 each from Skyla Drywater and Shawnee Nichols.

Colcord beat Dove Science 101-11 on Saturday in seventh-place game.

Colcord played at Foyil on Tuesday. Results were not available at presstime.

The Hornets and Lady Hornets host Wyandotte on Friday.

Watts

MIAMI, Okla. The Watts boys lost to South Coffeyvill­e 58-54 on Thursday in the Norse bracket of the NEO Tournament in Miami, Okla.

Watts then lost to Quapaw 51-49 on Friday.

The Watts girls were defeated 51-39 on Thursday against Fairland, but the Lady Engineers rebounded to beat Quapaw 34-32 on Friday.

Results from Saturday’s game were not available at presstime.

Oaks

KIEFER, Okla. — The Oaks boys beat Ripley 78-45 to open up the Dave Calvert Tournament on Thursday, but the Warriors fell to Ketchum 80-49 on Friday and then lost the thirdplace game 69-62 to Clinton on Saturday.

The Oaks girls were defeated 26-22 by Ripley on Thursday and the Lady Warriors lost to Ketchum 45-34 on Friday. The Lady Warriors rebounded to beat Foyil 38-31 on Saturday in the seventhpla­ce game.

Oaks hosts Watts on Tuesday. Results were not available at presstime.

The Warriors and Lady Warriors play at Hulbert on Jan. 31.
