Chamber of Commerce hosts legislative meeting
Siloam Springs residents had a chance to meet with some of their representatives in government and hear some of the issues they are facing.
State Senator Jim Hendren, State Representative Dan Douglas and State Representative Robin Lundstrum met for a public information session hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at the Arvest Community Room in Downtown Siloam Springs.
Each member of the state government gave a set of prepared remarks and spoke on several of the issues currently facing state government.
Hendren spoke about the tax plans that were on the floor and a measure that would remove taxes on veterans’ pensions. He also spoke about current concerns with a lack of industrial workforce, and a bill he was working on that would automatically make it a class 5 felony to fire a shot at a law enforcement officer.
Lundstrum spoke about a few of the issues she was working on, including introducing regulations on medical marijuana aimed at curbing non-medical use, new zoning legislation regarding medical marijuana, and introducing measures to minimize abuse of unemployment benefits.
Legislators also answered questions from a representative from Pipe Life, a PVC pipe company in Siloam Springs, on legislation that would encourage more competition in the bidding of city construction projects.
The members of the Arkansas State Government said they were waiting on the federal government to see what changes will be made on the state level to health care law.
