Colibri to perform at JBU March 12

- From Staff Reports

John Brown University’s Artist Series presents Colibri, the dynamic duo that combines the talents of violinist Evelyn Petcher and pianist Hannah Mindeman, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, in the Berry Performing Arts Center.

The duo will perform selections from their New York City concert “Light and Shadows” with compositions from Claude Debussy’s Sonata and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Sonata, op. 134.

A culmination of over 15 years of musical collaboration, Colibri made their professional debut at the University of Arkansas last February. Since, then, the duo has performed a wide variety of composers with a repertoire ranging from contemporary to baroque.

Mindeman, an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas, was a 20122013 Kenan Fellow at the Lincoln Center Institute in New York City and partnered with flutist Julian Rose to create “Reflections of a New York City Park Bench,” a multimedia concert performed at the Lincoln Center.

Petcher teaches strings, creative composition and curriculum integration projects with the Youth Orchestra of St. Luke’s in NYC and Learning Through Expanded Arts Programs. Petcher is also the cofounder of East Lake Expression Engine that offers musical instruction to low income children in Tennessee.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. To purchase tickets, visit jbu. edu/tickets or call 479524-7382.
