Girls end River Valley Cup with two consecutive wins
GREENWOOD — Siloam Springs’ girls soccer team outscored Mountain Home 3-2 in penalty kicks on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Panthers wrapped up the River Valley Cup with two straight wins in the consolation bracket at SmithRobinson Stadium in Greenwood.
After losing a penalty kicks match to Class 7A Mount St. Mary on Friday night, Siloam Springs bounced back Saturday morning to defeat Van Buren 7-0. Audrey Maxwell scored two goals with an assist in the victory over Van Buren, while Hadley Crenshaw scored a goal along with two assists. Megan Hutto had a goal and an assist, while Abigail Cole, Laura Morales and Maddie Vaughn also scored goals. Turtle Shreve added an assist for the Lady Panthers.
The win against Van Buren advanced Siloam Springs to the consolation finals against Class 6A Mountain Home.
Hutto scored a goal in regulation and also had a goal in the penalty kicks period. Maxwell and Meghan Kennedy also converted their PKs for Siloam Springs (7-2). The game was tied 1-1 after the end of regulation.
Boys finish third
VAN BUREN — After falling behind Fort Smith Southside 1-0 in the fifth minute of Saturday’s third place game of the River Valley Cup, Siloam Springs scored a pair of goals to rally for a 2-1 victory.
Jose Serrano’s goal off an Austin Shull assist in the 15th minute tied the game 1-1. Jack Bos found Irvin Rios for the game-winner in the 40th minute.
Earlier in the day, the Panthers lost 3-2 in penalty kicks to Clarksville after a scoreless regulation.
Shull and Aric Lee were successful on converting their penalty kicks for Siloam Springs (6-2).

The Siloam Springs soccer teams were scheduled to play nonconference matches at Berryville on Tuesday night. Results were not available at presstime. Both teams are scheduled to host Greenwood in a pair of 5A/6A District 1 matches on Thursday at Panther Stadium. The girls game is scheduled first at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game around 7:45 p.m.
