Seeing evil in the actions of North Korea’s leader

- Ron Wood

I saw this story on BBC. They are unbiased and global. The story hints at a larger problem: one nation’s leader who is a psychopath, a narcissist, and a killer. No, it is not Mr. Trump! You may not like President Trump (I pray for him daily) but you should still be thankful that you have the privilege of living in America.

The BBC story was about Kim Jong-un of North Korea, the boy-leader in a man’s body: a selfish dolt with an addiction to pornography and brandy. He is a megalomaniac who plays with nuclear toys while his generals kiss his ring and kill his opponents. This includes eliminating family members who disagree with him. Kim may start WWIII.

According to the BBC, “Amidst political tensions, an estimated 18 million people across North Korea continue to suffer from food insecurity and undernutrition, as well as a lack of access to basic services,” the UN report said. “Furthermore, 10.5 million people, or 41% of the total population, are undernourished.”

They didn’t mention the internment camps. In North Korea if you speak against Kim, not only you but your parents and children are sent into forced labor camps for the next three generations. Your family will die, never knowing freedom. This intense thought-control is essential for Kim to survive. He can’t let people see into South Korea with its liberty and prosperity, much less America. His power over people is fear.

While the people starve, their President fires off multi-million dollar missiles to test his nuclear payload delivery system against America. He stirs up irrational fear to keep himself in power. He sips champagne and eats caviar while his citizens rot in concentration camps, face firing squads, and eat bugs. No one is overweight in North Korea. Only soldiers and career party members eat well. Kim has a round, fat, well-fed face.

America is not perfect; nor our elected leaders. Yet we peacefully overthrow our government every four years. The wishes of the majority swing widely. This affects elections like a pendulum. But we keep on thriving, doing well. We have liberty. We pursue happiness. We are free. Every vote counts.

When my wife and I returned from South Africa, I wanted to kiss the ground. You know why? Because I realized that with all our problems, we have the best government on earth. We have freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom of speech. I am safe from the government seizing my property or falsely imprisoning me. I am well due to the best health care system. We are guarded by the best military. We remain safe from crime by good police. The mail is delivered!

Underlying our politics are those guiding principles and values that made us great as individuals and as families long before we became great as a nation. What were they? The ideas we learned from the Bible! America was not birthed in a moral vacuum. Civil rights are biblical.

If it were not for the pioneer preachers of the gospel, especially the Methodist horse-back pastors who helped civilize the west, our new nation would be splintered. God (and his word) made America great!

Donald Trump aspires to “Make America Great Again.” I hope he succeeds. Yet there is only so much he can do even if we give him a chance. For some things, we need a moral revolution, another Great Awakening. We need God in our homes, churches, and in our public life.
