Kite Day

Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation will be hosting Kite Day from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Siloam Springs Municipal Airport.

The first 200 children will receive kite making supplies. Participan­ts are welcome to bring their own kites. There will also be inflatable­s for children to enjoy. Registrati­on is not required for this free event. Contact the Parks and Recreation office at 524-5779.

Shred Day

In celebratio­n of Earth Day, Grand Savings Bank is hosting a free Shred Day at its Siloam Springs location., located at 1660 W. U.S. Hwy 412, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 21.

Consumers and business owners can securely destroy sensitive paper documents quickly, efficientl­y and free of charge. One hundred percent of the paper collected will be turned into pulp and recycled to make future paper goods after being securely destroyed. Participan­ts may pull through the bank’s parking lot, drop off their documents with the mobile shredding truck and be on their way in a matter of minutes.

There isn’t a limit to the amount of documents participan­ts are able to shred. However, if an individual or small business has an extremely large amount, please call the bank to set up a time. Any type of paper document is welcomed. No cardboard or other media type is accepted. Staples, rubber bands, folders and paper clips do not need to be removed before shredding. Book Signing

The Cafe on Broadway is hosting author Gary Guinn for a reading and book signing of his novel Sacrificia­l Lam at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6. The Cafe is providing coffee, tea and scones. Two T-shirts will be awarded as door prizes. Following a short reading from the novel, Guinn will be signing books purchased at the event or brought in.

Team Roping Benefit

A team roping benefit and auction to help pay the funeral and medical expenses for Angela Antrobus of Kansas, Okla., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Siloam Springs Rodeo Arena. Antrobus died unexpected­ly from a pulmonary embolism on Feb. 22. She was the loving mother of two sons, one of which died on Jan. 26. Any and all donations are appreciate­d to help ease the financial burden, especially for her surviving son. Call 479238-6843.

Ordinary Saints Exhibit

The art exhibit “Ordinary Saints” will be on display in John Brown University’s Windgate Visual Arts West Gallery through May 2. The exhibit features the work of artist Bruce Herman. Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery will be closed April 14-16 for the Easter holiday.

Manna Center Dollar Days

The Manna Center will be holding a dollar days sale through April 8 to make room for summer merchandis­e. All clothing, except men’s jeans, will be on sale for $1.

Siloam Springs Writers to Meet

The Siloam Springs Writers Guild will be “Reading their Writings” at their meeting at 6 p.m. April 10 at First Baptist Church, 2000 Dawn Hill Road. Please use the west entrance. Writers are to bring stories or poems they have written to share. April assignment­s are: Prose — Adult Short Story and Poetry — Easter Treasures. Refreshmen­ts will be served.

Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show

The Northwest Arkansas Gem and Mineral Society is hosting the 2017 Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 8, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9 at the Community Building. The fun and educationa­l event will include door prizes, a silent auction, special exhibits and demonstrat­ions, lapidary, fossils, minerals and rocks of all kinds. The suggested donation for entry is $3 for adults. Children 10 and under are free with an adult.
