Maxwell’s goals lifts SSHS girls soccer over Russellville

- From Staff Reports

Audrey Maxwell scored two goals, including the game-winner with 21 seconds left as Siloam Springs defeated Russellville 2-1 at Cyclone Stadium on Thursday night.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday but moved up a day because of severe weather on Friday.

The Lady Panthers improved to 17-3 overall and 7-0 in 5A/6A District 1 play with the victory.

Maxwell scored early in the match, but Russellville tied the game up and it remained that way until Maxwell got the game-winner.

“Russellville had a lot more energy (Thursday) night compared to when they were here a few weeks ago,” said Siloam Springs head coach Brent Crenshaw, who was allowed to coach in the girls game after being given a red card in the boys game earlier in the evening. “Our girls played well and missed a lot opportunities. They only created a few chances, but they finished one to tie the game in the second (half). It was a great shot by their center midfielder that we just failed to clear the ball.

“Our girls had a lot of the possession and I was proud of them to keep attacking and not getting frustrated. It all paid off with 21 seconds left when Audrey took the ball from about 25 (yards) out, beat two players and put the ball in the back of the net. She is something special.”

With the two goals, Maxwell increased her singleseason school record to 32 on the season.

One of Maxwell’s goals was assisted by Megan Hutto, who picked up her team-leading 14th assist on the year.
