SSHS softball facing eliminatio­n after loss

The Lady Panthers must win Wednesday at El Dorado to keep their season alive.

GREENWOOD — Greenwood scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to bust open a close game as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Siloam Springs 10-0 in the opening round of the 6A-West Conference Softball Tournament on Monday.

With the win, Greenwood clinched its spot in the Class 6A state tournament and the Lady Bulldogs (22-5) advance to Thursday’s winner’s bracket semifinal against

Lake Hamilton, which beat El Dorado 9-4.

Siloam Springs (3-18), meanwhile, lost its 11th straight game. The Lady Panthers travel to El Dorado for a 5 p.m. eliminatio­n

game Thursday with the winner advancing to the Class 6A state tournament in Benton on May 11-13. The loser’s season will be over.

Greenwood took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Monday’s game and added a run in the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs plated seven runs in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead.

Greenwood took advantage of seven Siloam Springs errors and roped 10 hits. Ericka Calderon had three hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs, while Mariah Hamilton had three hits with a run and an RBI.

Kaila Cartwright picked up the win for Greenwood with four innings pitched, while Madison Lawler also pitched an inning.

Crissa Spry (3-12) took the loss for Siloam Springs, allowing nine runs (three earned) in 31/3 innings.
