Award season
Hair Academy students honored
Students of the Northwest Arkansas Career Academy of Hair Design won 27 awards — including 17 gold medals, four silver medals and six bronze medals — at the Arkansas Skills USA Cosmetology Competition, held in Hot Springs last month.
Several students from Siloam Springs were among the winners. The 17 gold medal winners were awarded full tuition scholarships to the University of Arkansas Morrilton that can be used for any degree, according to Marcia Pettit, director of the school. The gold medal winners will advance on to the national championship, to be held in Lexington, Ky., in June.
“I’m just really proud of them,” Pettit said of her students. “They worked really hard.”
Career Academy of Hair Design has campuses in Rogers, Siloam Springs, Springdale, Fayetteville and Fort Smith, according to the school website, www.beautynwa.com. Siloam Springs High School students who are enrolled in the cosmetology program will graduate from high school with their cosmetology license, Pettit said.
