Extension homemakers promote new program in Benton County

- From Benton County Extension

Do you ever leave the doctor’s office thinking to yourself what am I supposed to do now or I forgot to mention?

The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences have teamed up to help Arkansans make the most of medical provider appointments with the program, “How To Talk To Your Doctor.”

Benton County Extension Homemakers Clubs are not only taking part in the program, but are recommending that other clubs and organizations in the county participate and promote it as well. The interactive program features an understandable and memorable strategy to know what to say to the doctor/medical provider, to ensure you understand what was discussed, and to leave the appointment confident in the steps you need to take next. Program participants receive a free pocket-size booklet containing the five-step strategy and an insulated bag to transport medications to the doctor’s office visit upon completion of the program.

“How to Talk to Your Doctor” will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 15, at the Siloam Springs Public Library. The program will be presented by Susan Pickle, County Extension Agent-Family & Consumer Sciences assisted by Benton County Extension Homemakers. There are Benton County Extension Homemaker clubs throughout the county providing education, community service and leadership opportunities including the Sager Creek EH club in Siloam Springs. The University of Arkansas System, Division of Agriculture offers all its extension and research programs to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected status, and is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
