JBU approved to offer M.Ed. in Educational Leadership

- From Staff Reports

Arkansas Department of Education has approved John Brown University to offer a 33-hour Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Educational Leadership P-12 as well as a 24-hour graduate-level endorsement.

Launching in spring 2018, this program will prepare students to move into a school administrator role. Graduates may be recommended for Arkansas Building Level Administrator P-12 licensure after completing the required assessments.

Dr. Jeff Terrell, dean of the College of Education and Human Services, says the Teacher Education Department is excited about offering this new program to students.

“There is always a need for solid administrators in our public and private schools, and many teachers feel called to multiply their efforts by moving into leadership in our school systems,” Dr. Terrell said. “This program provides a quality local option in a Christian context, with the best in both content and pedagogy — all while maintaining flexible delivery for working teachers.”

The new program will expand JBU’s graduate education degree offerings, which include a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education, Master of Science (M.S.) in School Counseling and Master of Arts (M.A.) in Higher Education.
