Busy summer in store for baseball, volleyball teams

The Siloam Springs boys and girls basketball teams and volleyball team each have busy summer calendars lined up.

Here is a preview of things to come this summer for each program.

Boys basketball

The Panthers are scheduled to have their first workout session of the summer from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at the Panther Activity Center.

It’s the first of nine scheduled workout sessions through the end of June. The others are from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on June 1, June 5, June 7, June 8, June 12, June 14, June 15 and June 22.

There are also six workout sessions scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays in July after the dead period, which runs from June 26July 10. The July workout sessions are July 11, July 13, July 18, July 20, July 25 and July 27.

The Panthers will be heading to basketball camp at the University of Kansas June 16-18.

The team also has several play dates scheduled throughout the month of June.

On June 6, the Panthers’ varsity and junior varsity will travel to Gravette to play games with Gravette and Jay, Okla. Varsity games are at 5 and 6:30 p.m., while junior varsity games are at 5:45 and 7:15 p.m.

On June 20, the varsity team will host Springdale, Regent Prep and Berryhill, Okla., for some scrimmages. On June 21, the Panthers will host Gravette and Vinita, Okla.

The eighth- and ninth-grade teams will play at Grove Jamboree on June 5, while the ninthgrade­rs will then play at tournament in Inola, Okla., June 7-8.

The eighth-and ninth-graders will return to Grove for games on June 20.

The seventh-grade team will host a jamboree on June 15 and play at Farmington Jamboree on June 19.

Girls basketball

The Lady Panthers also have a busy summer planned.

Five practices are scheduled to the beginning of the dead period in June. The first is today from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and practices will also be on June 1, June 6, June 8 and June 13.

Four more practices are scheduled after the dead period on July 11, July 13, July 20 and July 27.

Siloam Springs is scheduled to participat­e in three team camps. The Lady Panthers will go to Rogers Team Camp June 2-3, and then head to Crowder (Mo.) on June 10.

Siloam Springs will go to a team camp in Rolla, Mo., June 15-17.

A pair of summer basketball “League Nights” are scheduled July 17 and July 24 with Farmington and Prairie Grove.

Volleyball

The bulk of the Siloam Springs volleyball team’s summer activities won’t begin until July.

The Lady Panthers, who will be under first-year coach Joellen Wright, have two open gym sessions planned for June 7 and

14. They’ve also got tryouts on June 2 and June 23.

The Lady Panthers will take the dead period and return July 10-11 with morning practices before leaving for Branson, Mo., on July 12. The Lady Panthers will take a team trip to Silver Dollar City and then participat­e in the Licking Team Camp in Branson through July

15.

The team will return to practice from July 17-28, with a Play Day at Springdale Har-Ber scheduled for July 25. The Lady Panthers start up fall season practice on Aug. 1.
