Shull named to All-NWADG boys team

Siloam Springs senior midfielder Austin Shull was named to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s all-area boys soccer team.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR Jesus Zizumbo, Springdale Har-Ber, Jr., 5-10

Scored 12 goals for the state runner-up Wildcats, more than doubling his goal total from his sophomore season (5). Scored a goal in both 2017 state tournament matches.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR Christian Marroquin, Siloam Springs, So., 5-9

All-state selection led the Panthers with 20 goals and 12 assists as Siloam Springs (21-5-1) won its second straight state Class 6A state championsh­ip. Scored a goal and had an assist in the Panthers’ 4-0 win over Mountain Home in the 6A state finals.

COACH OF THE YEAR Cory Butler, Springdale Har-Ber

Led Har-Ber to its first conference title since 2013, second state finals appearance and a No. 5 national ranking on MaxPreps in his third season. The Wildcats reeled off 10 straight wins during the regular season en route to an 18-win season.

THE TEAM

Alex Balderas, Rogers High, Sr., 5-8 — Earned allstate honors for the second straight year as a midfielder to help the Mounties to their first state title with 17 assists to go with nine goals.

Erol Banuelos, Rogers Heritage, Sr., 5-6 — Rogers State signee, who earned all-state honors for the second straight season and finished with team-high 21 goals with eight assists.

Jose Castro, Bentonvill­e High, Sr., 5-7 — All-state selection who led the Tigers with eight goals and 14 assists.

Esteban Fuentes, Springdale Har-Ber, So., 5-8 — Netted 11 goals and recorded four assists for the 18-win and state runner-up Wildcats.

Ivan Fuentes, Springdale Har-Ber, Sr., 5-8 — Found the net a team-high 15 times and assisted on six goals as Har-Ber earned its first conference title since 2013.

Pedro Garcia, Rogers Heritage, Sr., 5-7 — Rogers State signee, who scored 15 goals and added 10 assists and earned all-state honors for the second consecutiv­e season.

Salvador Gonzalez, Springdale High, Jr., 5-6 — Scored a team-best 16 goals to go along with nine assists as Springdale reached its second consecutiv­e state semifinals appearance.

Juan Mejia, Springdale Har-Ber, Jr., 5-8 — Scored seven goals and assisted on seven others, helping HarBer reach its second-ever state championsh­ip match appearance.

Jessie Ramirez, Rogers High, Sr., 5-7 — Earned state tournament MVP honors leading the Mounties to their first state title. He finished with a team-best 20 goals and four assists.

Austin Shull, Siloam Springs, Sr., 5-10 — All-state and all-star midfielder and team captain finished tied for third on the 6A state champion Panthers with six goals and second on the team with 10 assists.

Jose Vega, Springdale High, So., 5-6 — An all-state and all-state tournament selection in 2017, Vega netted 14 goals and assisted on five others as the Red’Dogs finished 17-4 overall and 10-4 in league play.
