Shull named to All-NWADG boys team

Siloam Springs se­nior mid­fielder Austin Shull was named to the North­west Arkansas Demo­crat-Gazette’s all-area boys soc­cer team.

Scored 12 goals for the state run­ner-up Wild­cats, more than dou­bling his goal to­tal from his sopho­more sea­son (5). Scored a goal in both 2017 state tour­na­ment matches.

NEW­COMER OF THE YEAR Chris­tian Mar­ro­quin, Siloam Springs, So., 5-9

All-state se­lec­tion led the Pan­thers with 20 goals and 12 as­sists as Siloam Springs (21-5-1) won its sec­ond straight state Class 6A state cham­pi­onship. Scored a goal and had an as­sist in the Pan­thers’ 4-0 win over Moun­tain Home in the 6A state fi­nals.

COACH OF THE YEAR Cory But­ler, Spring­dale Har-Ber

Led Har-Ber to its first con­fer­ence ti­tle since 2013, sec­ond state fi­nals ap­pear­ance and a No. 5 na­tional rank­ing on MaxPreps in his third sea­son. The Wild­cats reeled off 10 straight wins dur­ing the reg­u­lar sea­son en route to an 18-win sea­son.


Alex Balderas, Rogers High, Sr., 5-8 — Earned all­state hon­ors for the sec­ond straight year as a mid­fielder to help the Moun­ties to their first state ti­tle with 17 as­sists to go with nine goals.

Erol Banue­los, Rogers Her­itage, Sr., 5-6 — Rogers State signee, who earned all-state hon­ors for the sec­ond straight sea­son and fin­ished with team-high 21 goals with eight as­sists.

Jose Cas­tro, Ben­tonville High, Sr., 5-7 — All-state se­lec­tion who led the Tigers with eight goals and 14 as­sists.

Este­ban Fuentes, Spring­dale Har-Ber, So., 5-8 — Net­ted 11 goals and recorded four as­sists for the 18-win and state run­ner-up Wild­cats.

Ivan Fuentes, Spring­dale Har-Ber, Sr., 5-8 — Found the net a team-high 15 times and as­sisted on six goals as Har-Ber earned its first con­fer­ence ti­tle since 2013.

Pe­dro Gar­cia, Rogers Her­itage, Sr., 5-7 — Rogers State signee, who scored 15 goals and added 10 as­sists and earned all-state hon­ors for the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive sea­son.

Sal­vador Gon­za­lez, Spring­dale High, Jr., 5-6 — Scored a team-best 16 goals to go along with nine as­sists as Spring­dale reached its sec­ond con­sec­u­tive state semi­fi­nals ap­pear­ance.

Juan Me­jia, Spring­dale Har-Ber, Jr., 5-8 — Scored seven goals and as­sisted on seven oth­ers, help­ing Har­Ber reach its sec­ond-ever state cham­pi­onship match ap­pear­ance.

Jessie Ramirez, Rogers High, Sr., 5-7 — Earned state tour­na­ment MVP hon­ors lead­ing the Moun­ties to their first state ti­tle. He fin­ished with a team-best 20 goals and four as­sists.

Austin Shull, Siloam Springs, Sr., 5-10 — All-state and all-star mid­fielder and team cap­tain fin­ished tied for third on the 6A state cham­pion Pan­thers with six goals and sec­ond on the team with 10 as­sists.

Jose Vega, Spring­dale High, So., 5-6 — An all-state and all-state tour­na­ment se­lec­tion in 2017, Vega net­ted 14 goals and as­sisted on five oth­ers as the Red’Dogs fin­ished 17-4 over­all and 10-4 in league play.
