City staff to test angled parking on Broadway Street once again

The City of Siloam Springs will test out angled parking on Broadway Street, between University Street and Central Street from Sunday June 25 through Friday, June 30.

Staff will work early Sunday morning to re-mark the street for the angled parking test run. This will affect both sides of Broadway.

While this should not affect downtown businesses, city staff wants customers, visitors and downtown residents to be prepared. All cars must be moved from the block of Broadway from University to Central Saturday evening, June 24.

If this test proves successful, more angled parking could be added throughout downtown thus creating more spaces for residents and visitors. Additionally, the angled parking will narrow the driving corridor through Broadway, naturally slowing traffic speeds. This goal matches up with the Downtown Connectivity and Master Plan released by Main Street Siloam Springs in June of 2014. It was adopted by Board of Directors soon after with a commitment to support the plan.

Staff previously tested out angled parking on Broadway between Alpine and Central in October of last year. This test will slightly change the angle of the parking spaces, creating a bit more room than the previously tested driving corridor.

Remember

• Please move your vehicles the evening of Saturday, June 24 so we can alter the parking lines next morning. (This is especially important for downtown residents.)

• Inform customers, tenants and visitors that the parking spaces will look a bit different and to use more caution in downtown.

• Pass along any feedback from the experiment so it can be used in the data collection and decision making.
