Friends of the Library Bookstore

The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in Siloam Springs Public Library — has a great assortment of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, most priced under $2. Featured are children’s books, a collection of vintage books, and a large section of religious-themed and Christian fiction. Signs in the library will guide patrons to the bookstore area which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friends of the Library uses all proceeds from the store to benefit the library, especially the children’s summer reading programs. Donations of used books and electronic media in good condition are always welcomed.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital hosts an Alzheimer’s Support Group every second and fourth Tuesday of the month inside Classroom 2 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs.

How to Talk to Your Doctor

The “How to Talk to Your Doctor” seminar will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, in Siloam Springs Regional Hospital’s Classroom 2 with Benton County Extension Agent Susan Pickle.

Seating is limited. Please call 479-215-3125 to register. Participan­ts will receive a booklet with the five-step strategy and a medication­s bag upon completion of the program.

AR SAVES/Hands-only CPR Class

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will host a free AR SAVES stroke awareness event and a handsonly CPR class at 10 a.m. Monday, July 17, inside Classroom 2 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs.

Emergency Department Director Lisa Williams will discuss the signs and symptoms of stroke and how the hospital can help. D.J. Kimberly, Registered Nurse, will show members how to perform a two-step hands-only CPR method.

Vietnam Memorial

Preston Jones, history professor at John Brown University, will spend many hours at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., during the last week of July. If there is a name on the wall of which you would like an etching at no cost, or if there is something you would like to place at the memorial, please contact Jones at pjones@ jbu.edu or 479-238-8688.

Dogwood Literacy Council

It is rewarding to be able to assist someone who is trying to improve their literacy skills in order to help their family. The Dogwood Literacy Council is in need of more volunteers who would like to become a tutor. Training and materials will be provided. For more informatio­n contact Charlie at 479-524-4009.

Saturday Summer Lunch

Grace Episcopal Church will be serving free lunch to kids and adults every Saturday through Aug. 12. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. at the Siloam Springs Farmers Market. Mobile lunches will also be served at the gazebo at Spring Valley Apartments, the Eliana Chacon Memorial Park and the picnic pavilion at Bob Henry Park.

Summer Lunch Program

Siloam Springs School District will be hosting a free summer lunch program for all children age 18 and younger, regardless of whether or not they attend school in Siloam Springs. Meals will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, now through Aug. 4 at Allen Elementary School and the Siloam Springs Middle School. Lunch will also be served at three mobile locations, including at 11:15 a.m. by the gazebo at Spring Valley Apartments; 11:45 a.m. at Eliana Chacon Memorial Park; and 12:15 p.m. by the picnic pavilion at Bob Henry Park. Adult meals are available at the Allen and Middle Schools only for $3.50. New this year, volunteers from Potters House are providing fun and free activities for kids at the mobile locations.
