Moving sale
The Siloam Springs Herald-Leader has office furniture, including desks and chairs, for sale at its current location at 101 N. Mt. Olive. Come to our location between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through July 26 to see what is available. Prices are variable. Buyers are responsible for haul-away. Road work
The city of Siloam Springs will be closing Kenwood to through traffic from Holly to Carl Street to move utility lines and widen the street. Closure will be intermittent between now and December 31. For more information, contact the street department at the city at 524-5136.
SSWG to meet Aug. 14
Writers of columns for the Herald-Leader will speak at the Aug. 14 monthly meeting of the Siloam Springs Writers Guild at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 2000 Dawn Hill Road. Please use the west entrance. August assignments are to be sent to sswgsisp@gmail.com between August 1-10 are as follows: Prose — How to Keep Cool, and Poetry — a Rondeau (any topic). Blood drive honoring Cody Pickering
Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will host a blood drive in remembrance of Cody Pickering from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 21, in the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) Bloodmobile at the SSRH parking lot, located at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. Free T-shirts will be given to all participants.
To be eligible to give blood, you must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and present a valid photo ID. CBCO offers the following tips if you plan to make a donation:
• Drink plenty of water or juice the night and morning before you donate.
• Eat a well-balanced meal around 2-3 hours before giving.
• Bring your photo ID which is required for all donors.

Friends of the Library Bookstore
The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in Siloam Springs Public Library — has a great assortment of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, most priced under $2. Featured are children’s books, a collection of vintage books, and a large section of religious-themed and Christian fiction. Signs in the library will guide patrons to the bookstore area which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friends of the Library uses all proceeds from the store to benefit the library, especially the children’s summer reading programs. Donations of used books and electronic media in good condition are always welcomed.
Grief Support Group
Siloam Springs Regional Hospital hosts a Grief Support Group with Don Wleklinski, APRN, at 6 p.m. every first and third Friday of the month inside Classroom 1 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. If you would like to join the group, call 479-220-2772.
Alzheimer’s Support Group
Siloam Springs Regional Hospital hosts an Alzheimer’s Support Group every second and fourth Tuesday of the month inside Classroom 2 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. If you would like to join the group, call 479-215-3125.
AR SAVES/Hands-only CPR Class
Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will host a free AR SAVES stroke awareness event and a hands-only CPR class at 10 a.m. Monday, July 17, inside Classroom 2 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. Emergency Department Director Lisa Williams will discuss the signs and symptoms of stroke and how the hospital can help. D.J. Kimberly, Registered Nurse, will show members how to perform a two-step hands-only CPR method. Space is limited. Please call 479-215-3125 to register today.
Vietnam Memorial
Preston Jones, history professor at John Brown University, will spend many hours at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., during the last week of July. Dogwood Literacy Council
It is rewarding to be able to assist someone who is trying to improve their literacy skills in order to help their family. The Dogwood Literacy Council is in need of more volunteers who would like to become a tutor. Training and materials will be provided. For more information contact Charlie at 479-524-4009.
Saturday Summer Lunch
Grace Episcopal Church will be serving free lunch to kids and adults every Saturday through Aug. 12. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. at the Siloam Springs Farmers Market. Mobile lunches will also be served at the gazebo at Spring Valley Apartments, the Eliana Chacon Memorial Park and the picnic pavilion at Bob Henry Park.
Summer Lunch Program
Siloam Springs School District will be hosting a free summer lunch program for all children age 18 and younger, regardless of whether or not they attend school in Siloam Springs. Meals will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, now through Aug. 4 at Allen Elementary School and the Siloam Springs Middle School. Lunch will also be served at three mobile locations, including at 11:15 a.m. by the gazebo at Spring Valley Apartments; 11:45 a.m. at Eliana Chacon Memorial Park; and 12:15 p.m. by the picnic pavilion at Bob Henry Park. Adult meals are available at the Allen and Middle Schools only for $3.50. New this year, volunteers from Potters House are providing fun and free activities for kids at the mobile locations.
Preschool enrollment
Northside Elementary School is currently taking applications for preschool students for the 2017-2018 school year. All applications will be submitted online and can be accessed by going to the Northside homepage, http://north side.siloamschools.com/
Children must be 4 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2017, to apply for preschool. Space is limited and will be filled on a first come, first qualified basis. All qualified children who are four years old by this date will be notified by mail. For more information call 479-524-4126.
