For three consecutive years, John Brown University has been named a “Great College to Work For” according to The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges to Work For survey, the largest and most comprehensive workplace study in higher education.

JBU was among 79 institutions that were nationally recognized for best workplace policies and practices.

Listed with honor roll distinction and placed as top 10 within the small enrollment size category, JBU won honors for three consecutive years in nine of 12 categories: collaborative governance, compensation and benefits, confidence in senior leadership, facilities, workspace and security, job satisfaction, professional/career development programs, respect and appreciation, supervisor/department chair relationship and work/ life balance.

“JBU is a great place to work because our faculty and staff are committed to honoring God and serving others,” said JBU President Dr. Chip Pollard. “I am grateful for this recognition by The Chronicle of Higher

Education for the third year in a row, but I am even more thankful for the daily gift of working with people who strive to cultivate in students a developed servant heart, a nourished spiritual life and an excellent academic experience.”

The Chronicle’s survey results, based primarily on employee feedback, included a two-part assessment from each institution: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies and a survey distributed to faculty, administrators and professional support staff.

To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle, a leading news publication for colleges and universities, worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted many “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.

“Ten years in, the Great Colleges to Work For distinction is well-known by academic jobseekers as a sign that an institution’s employees are valued and given opportunities for growth even when they face financial constraints,” said Liz McMillen, editor of The

Chronicle. “Any college or university that’s on the list is showing that they emphasize one of their most valuable assets: their faculty and staff.”

Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. For more information and to view the survey results, visit The Chronicle’s website at chronicle. com/AW17.
