ESL workshop

First Baptist Church of Siloam Springs will be hosting an English as a Second Language (ESL) workshop on Aug. 25-26.

The workshop will be a total of 11 hours and begin on Friday, Aug. 25, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will continue Saturday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The purpose is to show volunteers, men and women, how to begin an English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry in their church. At the same time they learn how to teach conversational English to adults whose first language is not English. There is a significant population in our area who do not have English language skills.

The requirements for teaching with this method are having a basic education and speaking English as your first language. Neither teaching experience, nor certification is required. A workshop participant does not need to know a second language.

The cost for the workshop is $25. This covers workshop materials, light snacks and lunch on Saturday. A certificate is given to each participant who completes the 11-hour training. Please register by August 21 so sufficient materials are available.

To register call “C. L.” Pickle at 479-373-1426 or 936-588-9164; or call Stewart Pickle at 479-2281928, or e-mail clpickle@gmail.com.
