JBU welcomes new students to campus

- From Staff Reports

John Brown University welcomed 402 freshmen and transfer students to class on JBU’s main campus Wednesday.

For three consecutive years, JBU has enrolled over 400 new students.

“We are excited for the incoming class to experience our Christ-centered philosophy and our excellent professional programs that set us apart from many colleges,” said Don Crandall, vice president for enrollment management. “We provide a holistic balance between theory and experience to help our graduates jump-start their careers, while preparing each student to honor God and serve others.”

The class of 2021 represents 17 countries, including South Korea, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Croatia and the Bahamas, and 26 states, with 41 percent from

Arkansas and 35 percent from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Missouri combined. The class’ top majors include nursing, engineering, biology, elementary education and psychology with 43 percent men and 57 percent women. In total, JBU awarded the incoming class over $5 million in scholarships and financial aid.

“I fell in love with JBU when admissions hosted a preview day where I toured campus, stayed with a JBU student in a dorm and observed an Old Testament survey class,” Alicia Beltran, freshman family and human services major, said. “What attracted me most to this university was their community. As a new student, I’m glad to finally be a part of that community, and I can’t wait to see what this year will bring.”

JBU is Arkansas’ top ranked regional university, according to U.S. News Best Colleges, 2017. The university enrolls more than 2,700 students from 40 states and 37 countries in its traditional undergraduate, graduate, online and concurrent education programs. It offers more than 39 majors, with top programs including business administration, graphic design, engineering, construction management, counseling, teacher education and nursing.
